Volkswagen Vento and Polo proved biggest achievers
The heavy sales of midsize sedan Volkswagen Vento and premium hatchback Polo have proved a major contributor in maintaining the positive growth trajectory in the Indian auto market for the German auto giant Volkswagen, during the month of March 2012. The Indian subsidiary of Volkswagen managed to sell a total of 8326 units of its cars in the Indian market during this month as compared to 6529 units sold in the same month last year, registering a sales surge of 22 percent.

Volkswagen Polo, a popular premium hatchback that was launched in the Indian market in April 2010, registered its best ever monthly sales figures at 3940 units. The Volkswagen Polo hatchback has been gradually strengthening its position in the Indian auto market since its launch, and has been giving a giving a tough competition to the rivals like Maruti Swift, Ford Figo, Honda Brio, Toyota Etios Liva and Fiat Punto.
On the other hand, the sales figures of mid-size sedan Vento stood at 3908 units during this month. The Vento has been among the most preferred cars in its segment since its launch, positing a threat to the supremacy of the segment leader Honda City.

The sales of the company’s premium sedans Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Passat stood at 478 units.
Speaking on the company’s performance, Member of Board & Director, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Neeraj Garg said that the month of March’12 has proved to be the best selling month for the Brand, instilling Volkswagen’s confidence that their mass segment cars Polo and Vento have been successful in the Indian market despite high competition in their respective segments.
