Volkswagen XL1 unveils at Geneva Motor Show
The Volkswagen XL1 Super Efficient Vehicle has been successful in grabbing eyeballs in various past auto shows but the production version of the car recently made its presence felt in the Geneva Motor show as well. This striking red color vehicle did impress the onlookers not only by its aesthetic appeal but also by its extremely high fuel efficiency. This vehicle has already bagged the impressive title of ‘world’s most efficient car in the whole world’ as it gives the mileage of 111 km for one litre of fuel. This car is equipped with electric hybrid system and it can travel for 50 km in electric mode purely.
This two seater car will be manufactured at VW’s Osnabruck factory in Germany. Features of this car includes Plug-in hybrid system featuring 2 cylinder 48 PS TDI diesel engine along with 27 PS electric motor featuring Li-ion battery pack, 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, top speed electronically limited up to 160 kmph, round about 0-100 kmph in 12.7 seconds, etc. This hybrid car emits only 21 g/km of CO2. It tips the scale at 795 kg and its low coefficient of drag is of 0.189. As far as specifications of the car are concerned then this car is 3,888 mm long, 1,153 mm tall and 1,665 mm wide. This version is lower than a Porsche and shorter than Polo. This vehicle’s CFRP body shells and Carbon fiber monocoque are fabricated by Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) manufacturing process.
The VW XL1 certainly surfaces as a personification of energy efficiency but this specific fact about this vehicle can’t be ignored that it bears a huge price. The strongest and biggest USP is undoubtedly its extremely efficient diesel hybrid technology. There is no doubt that due to possessing the knowledge of same highly sophisticated technology, VW will be able to roll out similar kinds of budget models in coming future.
