Waiting Period For Mahindra Thar Extends To Ten Months
Domestic carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra had launched the second generation of Thar SUV last year on October 2, 2020. With its launch, the SUV succeeded in receiving an encouraging response from the Indian buyers because of its extra-ordinary features. It would be interesting to know that the inclination of Indian buyers towards the SUV has even surprised the homegrown carmaker with its waiting period extending to ten months. According to the company sources it has received more than 6500 bookings during the month of December 2020, after receiving more than 15,000 bookings in its launching month.
Under the hood, the Mahindra Thar comes equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine boosting the power of 152 bhp and the torque of 300Nm, while the diesel variant receives power from the 2.2-litre diesel engine boosting the power of 132 bhp and the torque of 300Nm. Commenting on the overwhelming response received by the Mahindra Thar from the Indian buyers, Mr Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director of Auto & Farm Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra said the reaction of Indian buyers for Thar is beyond their expectations. The price of Mahindra Thar starts from Rs. 11.90 lakhs and goes high to Rs. 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom prices).
It is reported that from the bookings received by Thar so far, 50% of the bookings have for the LX trim with an automatic gearbox. The company has discontinued that base AX variant of the first generation due to its side-facing seats. According to Mr Jejurikar, the main reason behind the extending waiting period up to ten months is due to delay in the supply of raw materials, especially the semiconductors.
