BMW 5 Series spotted testing
At the Geneva Auto show in March, BMW’s hybrid version of the 5 series, BMW ActiveHybrid 5 was first showcased and is expected to be ready for launch by the end of year 2011. In California, the car was seen testing in open and complete with Hybrid badges. The car will be available in California after its launch as Hybrids cars are very popular in this place and have good sales percentage.
The ActiveHybrid 5 concept car had BMW’S N55 engine when it was showcased at the Geneva auto show with a standard gasoline engine coupled to a Kw electric generator/motor. The car consists of a powertrain with 3.0 ltr inline- six cylinder engine which gives 300 bhp and 300 lb-ft torque. Power reached the tarmac through an 8 speed automatic transmission. The ActiveHybrid 5 with new powertrain will be more fuel efficient.

According to reliable sources, BMW CEO stated in the year 2010 that many car makers are manufacturing hybrid models and the Hybrid technology is ready to make its place in the Automobile industry. The company’s other Hybrid models are X6 Active Hybrid and 7 series Active Hybrid and the new Active Hybrid 5 is expected to make its debut soon. The new ActiveHybrid 5 will be cheaper as compared to the other Hybrid models of the Company.
Toyota Prius has already started a revolution in California and so BMW plans to launch the ActiveHybrid 5 in California State. Honda’s has also come up with its Hybrid model Honda FCX Clarity which uses hydrogen as fuel. In US, California is the only state having infrastructure for the commercial distribution of Hydrogen. BMW with its 5 series hybrid can give tough competition to popular Toyota Prius but for now Toyota Prius is car buyers’ first choice.
