The US based auto giant General Motors has reported a shrink in sales of Chevrolet Cruze in the American auto market. The dip in sales has led the company to close down its production unit at Lordstown, Ohio; where the sedan is manufactured, for eight days. Chevrolet or Chevy Cruze has spent a very decent tenure as far as the sales numbers are concerned with more than 18,000 sedans sold since its launch in January 2010.

The Ohio manufacturing unit will stay closed from November 28th to December 5th this year. The company; which is presently the No.1 carmaker around the globe, managed to make sales of 14,295 cars of Cruze model in the month of October 2011. Due to this downfall in sales, the firm requires to move unhurriedly in its production, before that it needs to clear away the already manufactured units of Cruze.

The chief cause of this debacle is the potent development in demand for vehicles by Japan based companies like Honda Motors and Toyota Motor Corporation in the United States. Some months ago the foreign auto makers were going through a rough phase in sales due to the natural calamity of earthquake and tsunami had hit major part of Japan, consequentially suspending production from their plants. The situations are now under control in Japan, and these car makers are in battlefield again, proving to be a solid opposition for the domestic auto major in US.

The Chevrolet brand of General Motors retail small cars Spark and Beat along with SUV Captiva and sedan Cruze in the Indian automotive market.
