Chevrolet Cruze recalled in US

American car maker General Motors has recalled over 4.75 lakh Chevrolet Cruze sedans sold in US, Canada and Israel following some engine shield repair. All the Cruze produced at the Ohio plant since September 2010 is included in the recall. Out of these, over 4.13 lakh Cruze were sold in US, 701 were sent to Israel and over 61k were sold in Canada. Notably, Cruze was GM’s bestselling car in US in 2011 with over 2.31 lakh units sold. This is the second time Cruze has been recalled since 2010. Meanwhile, India still awaits the new Chevrolet Cruze launch that is schedules soon.

As per the information available, the Chevrolet Cruze sedan engine compartment could catch fire due to some liquid being trapped in the compartment. As per the repair, Chevrolet will be making some modification to the engine compartment to prevent such liquid trap so that all possible danger could be averted. Meanwhile General Motors has officially said that it has not received any reports of any mishap, fire, or any other malfunction of the car due to this problem and said that it is only a precautionary measure taken by GM in the interest of Cruze owners. However, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has clarified that it has instances of Cruze car catching fire.

GM will take only 30 minutes to carry out the repair and it will be done at any of the Chevrolet dealerships in US. GM will be contacting the Cruze owners starting July 11 following which they will be asked to take their car to the nearest Chevy dealership. Since this is a minor repair, it will not take much of Cruze owners time and they can take away the car in the stipulated time once the repair is done free of cost. During the earlier recall that was in 2011 when GM recalled all the Cruze sedans sold in US and Canada to check the steering shaft installation.
