Chevrolet Sail launch in May, Sail Sedan launch this Diwali

Chevrolet Sail hatchback will be launched anytime during May-June this year. The B+ segment hatch Sail will be preceding the Sail sedan which is expected to follow immediately after its launch. The Sail hatch and sedan were unveiled at the Auto Expo 2012 held in January. Developed jointly by General Motors subsidiary Chevrolet and its Chinese partner SAIC, the Sail hatchback and sedan will be the affordable offerings by the American car maker. It is expected that the Sail brothers will be doing the same wonder here in India as these did in China.

Two factors supported the success of Sail in China and these are interiors that are spacious and plush and the availability in frugal diesel and petrol offerings. However it will be Chevrolet outlook where to place this Sail hatch. It is however seen as a replacement for Chevrolet Aveo U-VA which is struggling for sales. Besides it is expected to be cleverly placed in a price band so as not to disrupt the sales of Chevrolet Beat hatch which has recently performed very well bringing much activity in Chevrolet car sales in India. Lowell Paddock, the Managing Director of GM India has reportedly said that the company will be bringing the Sail hatchback in India in the middle of this year while a Sail sedan will follow. Experts believe that the Sail sedan will be launched this Diwali.

The Sail hatch is expected to be powered by a 1.2L 80 bhp S TEC II technology based petrol engine. This is the very same engine that powers the Beat. The diesel engine will of course be the Fiat sourced 1.3 L multijet which has become a favorite of car makers these days. Whereas the Sail sedan that will follow its hatchback will have a 1.4L petrol engine while the diesel Sail sedan will have a 1.3 L multijet with turbo engine. Once the Sail sedan lands in India, it will certainly give sleepless nights to Toyota Etios and the Maruti Swift Dzire sedan.
