Competitively priced new cars launch raises price war in the industry
The ongoing slow growth scenario in the Indian automobile industry has forced the auto biggies in the country to rethink over pricing lines of their respective models in the Indian market. The leading car makers are either offering heavy cash discounts or have priced their cars more competitively as compared to before.

The clear indication of ongoing price war in the industry was seen when Maruti launched its much awaited new generation Maruti Swift just Rs 13,000 more than the previous version of the car, at Rs 4.22 lakh. The price hike of new Swift model seems quite moderate considering the fact that the car maker has made about 140 changes in the new car. In the same segment, Toyota has competitively priced its Etios Liva hatchback at Rs 3.99 lakh. The low price tag of Liva model has made it one of the cheapest priced premium hatchbacks in the country.

Going in the same line, Indian unit of the leading Japanese car maker Honda Motors has slashed the price of its premium hatchback Jazz by up to Rs 1.6 lakh. The new Honda Jazz model is now available with a starting price tag of Rs 5.5 lakh, enhancing its competitiveness considerably. In the sedan segment, Honda has recently slashed the price of its popular City sedan by up to Rs 66,000. The heavy discounts and competitively priced models have raised a price war in the hatchback and entry level sedan segment.
