GM’s new global platform to produce many new cars including 2015 Chevy Cruze
Come 2015 and there will be an all new Chevrolet Cruze and most importantly it will be based on an entirely new platform. The new platform is expected to bring bumper sales and Chevrolet cars closer as over 2.5 million compact sedans will be based on it in the next three years after its launch. The new platform by Chevrolet will have the comfort of a sedan while it will provide the stability and ruggedness of a crossover. Thus in the entire platform will be highly comfortable, maneuverable and will be tougher to take on the on road challenges. Both compact sedans and crossovers will be developed on this new platform and this will give an edge to the car maker in making its cars more affordable and efficient.
Sensing the development of the new platform, it seems that Chevrolet eyes the India compact SUV segment as the segment is getting hot and hotter day by day and almost all the car makers target it along with the MPV segment. Recent offering Renault Duster has the credit of being the true offering in this segment and it will not be an exaggeration to say that in reality the Duster has started off this segment in the country. The other offerings which are awaited in the segment include Ford Ecosport and
Maruti XA Alpha. Both are anticipated this Diwali or early next year. In this regard, the Chevrolet compact SUV will be a little late entrant.
The other segment that the new platform will target is the compact sedan segment in India that has only two offerings in place –
Maruti Swift Dzire and Tata Indigo eCS. Thought there are a lot of them in the pipeline such as Mahindra Verito CS and Hindustan Ambassador CS as well. Meanwhile, the car maker also has plans to base some of the cars such as Chevrolet Volt, Chevrolet Equinox and Opel Astra on the new platform. Thus the new platform has a hectic schedule ahead and it seems that the car maker has decided to make it a platform to base a large number of its cars.
