Honda, Ford and Toyota incur losses due to slow sales, year ahead seems bright
American car maker Ford and Japanese car makers Honda and Toyota seem to be going through rough times. Year 2012 has been quite disappointing leading to the three posting a collective loss of over Rs 770 crore. Honda India is the worst sufferer. However, analysts believe that where Ford is highly banking on Ford Ecosport, Honda thinks that Honda Amaze will be the game changer. Meanwhile, Toyota will be promoting Etios Liva and Etios sedan as its major products. Thus it is believed that this year will be quite fruitful for these car makers that fall prey to the overall low sentiment of the market.

In terms of losses, Honda tops the three followed by Ford and then Toyota. It is believed that Honda succumbed to losses due to only petrol cars available in its stable. However, despite of this fact Honda Brio has done a good job and has helped the car maker in lowering the extent of loss. Almost in every segment, Honda cars had to face defeat due to the absence of diesel models. Some experts say to the extent that it was almost an act of suicide that Honda is till now not able to launch a diesel car or the diesel model of any of its cars in India.
In the meantime, Ford India lacked momentum in 2012 with only the Ford Figo coming in the end of year and posting some decent figures. The year ahead for Ford is bright as it is soon to launch the Ecosport SUV and then it will be the Ford B Max MPV coming in. Meanwhile, Toyota has decided that it will be strengthening its brand and will continue with the Etios series and further promoting it in the segment. But with the incoming of Chevrolet Sail UVA and the upcoming Chevrolet Sail sedan the prospects of Etios Liva and Etios sedan are expected to get dampened further.
