Hyundai Tucson Scores Zero Stars Rating In Latin NCAP
The Tucson compact SUV, from the Korean carmaker Hyundai Motors, has received zero stars in the Latin NCAP test conducted recently. The compact SUV had scored 5 stars in the Euro NCAP. The body shell during the crash test remained stable and capable of standing strong enough against various hits. The vehicle offered good protection to the head, abdomen, and pelvis. It failed in providing complete protection to the chest.
The compact SUV also failed in offering protection to the child occupants. According to reports, there is only a lap belt present in the middle of the rear seat. The report revealed by the Latin NCAP states that the Korean carmaker had refused Child Restraint Systems (CRS) for the tests. Although there were ISOFIX anchorages for child safety, they were not according to the standards of LATIN NCAP. The pedestrian protection was average. The compact SUV didn’t perform according to expectations in providing upper leg and head protection.
Moving ahead, another reason which seems responsible for the zero-star rating is the absence of an autonomous emergency brake (AEB). The AEB helps in minimizing the chances of pedestrian accidents. The compact SUV also lacks the presence of various other safety measures like Speed Assist System, Lane Assist System, AEB inter-Urban. It also lacks the BSD feature as a standard safety feature.
At present, the Korean carmaker is working on launching the 2022 Tucson. It is expected that it will try to remove these drawbacks from the upcoming version.
