Made In India Maruti S-Presso Gets 3 Star Rating in GNCAP

The made-in-India mini SUV by the country’s leading car-making company Maruti Suzuki India Limited received a 0-star rating during its first Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) conducted back in November 2020. Now once again the mini SUV underwent the same test under the “Safe Car for Africa Program”. Interestingly, this time the hatchback succeeded in receiving a three-star rating during the test. It was reported that the S-Presso sold in the South African market is safer than its version sold in India.

The model used during the crash test conducted in November 2020 had only one driver-side airbag. After that, the car makers updated the mini SUV and offered two airbags for the front seat passengers as a standard feature. This model is being currently on the sale in the Indian car market. During the test for the Safe Car for Afric Program, the S-Presso scored a three-star safety ranking for adult occupant protection and a two-star rating for child protection.

The updated version of S-Presso also receives seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters. During the test, both these features offered complete protection to the head and the neck of front seat passengers. It offered marginal knee protection to the driver, whereas offered satisfactory knee protection to the passenger.

These results are speculated to increase the sales of S-Presso in the Indian car market. At present, the Indo-Japanese car maker is going to launch the 2022 Maruti Suzuki Brezza in the Indian car market on June 30, 2022. In its updated version the compact SUV will miss its middle name Vitara.
