Mahindra Scorpio electric to launch by next fiscal
Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles, the only electric car maker in the Indian market, said on Wednesday that it will be rolling out a Mahindra portfolio based electric vehicle by next one and a half year. The new vehicle from Mahindra Reva will be an electric version of Mahindra’s most popular SUV, Mahindra Scorpio.
Speaking to the reporters on the sidelines of the annual summit of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) in New Delhi, Chief of Technology & Strategy at Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicles, Mr. Chetan Maini said that the firm will roll-out M&M passenger vehicle with electric vehicle technology in next 18 months. Which means, the new Mahindra Scorpio electric will hit the Indian roads by somewhere around first quarter of year 2013.

The upcoming electric vehicle is currently in testing stage and the M&M vehicles have already been fitted with the electric vehicle technology. Earlier this year, the country’s largest utility vehicle maker M&M had stated that it plans to launch an electric fuel option with its popular sports utility vehicle (SUV) Scorpio, and then plans to gradually launch this technology with other portfolio vehicles of the company.
According to Mr. Maini, the plan is to introduce these electric cars in all Mahindra outlets. The firm aims to establish 50 outlets in the Indian market by this year end, and plans to take this number to 100 by the end of next year. The Reva electric cars are currently being sold through 24 Mahindra and 2 Reva dealerships in the Indian market.
