Mahindra Scorpio SUV– almost a decade long saga of success
Mahindra Scorpio, robust macho big SUV from the homegrown car maker has perhaps completed a decade in India. It was launched in India in 2002 and is still the heartthrob of the Indians after Tata Safari. This Indian SUV is the first SUV by Mahindra that has been developed with a view to target global markets. The Mahindra XUV 500 is the latest addition to the fleet of global SUVs. Notably, in the past one decade, the craze for Scorpio SUV has never faded and thus it has been on the high despite of several new SUV additions. The Scorpio price starts at Rs 7.49 lakh and goes up to Rs 12.63 lakh ex-showroom.

So what is really in the Mahindra Scorpio that has kept its position intact despite of several new addition to the segment. It is the power, style or is it the price? Power no doubt is in Scorpio, styling is stunning and price now doubt starts at as low as Rs 7.49 lakh. It has in fact become an iconic SUV of India after Tata Safari. Available in four wheel and two wheel drive options, the all diesel SUV promises performance and power delivery. It is available in 75 bhp 2500cc M2DICOR and 120 bhp mHawk engine options.

Another reason that probably has helped Mahindra Scorpio SUV to dominate its segment is the non availability of rivals initially besides a single rival Tata Safari. However, recent addition of Force One SUV and Mahindra XUV 500 which is from its own company has dampened the Mahindra Scorpio sales in India. But still, the SUV Scorpio is able to sell in decent numbers primarily due to its low price, brand value and low price. Besides this the availability in automatic transmission and an array of safety and other features have also helped the SUV gain volumes in India. A US launch of the SUV is on cards.
