Mahindra Scorpio takes over major SUV’s in Indian car market

Mahindra Scorpio the highly acclaimed SUV from domestic car maker Mahindra & Mahindra seems to take huge lead over its contenders Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport. According to sales statistics figures revealed by company it succeeded in selling out 50,900 units of Scorpio against 46,700 units of Renault Duster and 45,000 units of Ford EcoSport sold during the financial year 2013-14.  It would be interested to know that out of 50,900 units of Scorpio sold by Mahindra 5,605 units were sold out during the last month of FY 2013-14, which might be due to festive season of Holid and also as an impact of decline in excise duty of vehicles.
 
In the others of Mr. Pravin Shah, company had sold out high numbers of Scorpio and Bolero during the month of March 2014. Mr. Shah also added that their company do not pushes the buyers to buy its vehicles but buyers do not find any better option than its vehicles. On the contrary Mr. Sumit Sawhney, MD, Renault India, said that during the calendar year 2013 Renault sold out 51,400 units of Duster in market as compared to 49,500 units of Scorpio sold out by M&M. Mr. Sawhney also added that there should not be any comparison between Scorpio and Duster because both are different vehicles and cater needs of different segments of buyers. According to him Duster is performing well in Indian car market and is highly accepted by all segments of buyers.

It would be important to mention that comparing different vehicles is not fair, but due to pricing factors this comparison becomes inevitable. The main reason behind the success of Scorpio could be high number of buyers from rural areas followed by extended dealership network of M&M.
