Mercedes Benz GLE Class Introduced in Indian Car Market

Mercedes Benz India on Wednesday launched its premium luxury SUV GLE (previously M Class) in two variants- 250D and 350D priced at Rs. 58.9 lakhs and Rs. 69.9 lakh respectively. GLE marks the 13th launch for the brand this year. "We have been very busy this year and the GLE is our 13th launch. In this year, we have expanded to 80 outlets across 39 cities and our total investment in India," says Mercedes Benz India, Managing Director & CEO Roland Foger.

This segment has seen a good growth for the company, clocking 70 percent increase in sales. Across the board Mercedes had clocked 34 percent growth in the first 5 months of the year. GLE, is the first vehicle after the German luxury carmaker changed the nomenclature for its SUVs to include "G" in the name as a tribute to the original DNA of its SUV - the G Wagon.The GLE is mated to a 6 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with the 350 producing 2987 cc of displacement, 190 kW of power and a maximum torque of 620 Nm. The 250 is a 4 cylinder engine producing 150 kW of power and 500 Nm of torque. The SUV will continue to be a direct challenge to Audi Q7 and BMW X5.
 
Mercedes Benz India is also strengthening its commitment to "Make in India" as the new GLE will be produced locally from the day one. The SUV will be replacing the ML class, The luxury carmaker which recently, expanded its local plant in Pune is also in talk with the Maharashtra government to get the tax cession be extended to take decision of further investment in India.
