Mercedes small cars in its Indian portfolio

The renowned luxury automaker, Mercedes Benz has announced to grace its Indian portfolio with the new assortment of the premium (A and B class) small cars, just after a day of BMW Mini Cooper launch declaration. Company is struggling hard to regain its lost track of success, has slipped down from the top position by BMW in 2010.

The third ranked German automaker, Audi has tasted the success with the launch of entry-level SUV Audi Q3 in 2011, sharp-eyed for the second position. The Managing Director & CEO of Mercedes Benz, Peter Honegg said that in the upcoming 2-3 years company will precise work for its small car segment to expend its Indian operations.

The all new compact Mercedes Benz A Class concept will soon arrive for the Indian buyers, recently showcased in 2012 Delhi Auto Expo. The Mercedes Benz M Class and Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Roadster will also be in queue. The Indian automotive market has abundance of compact cars and limited collection of luxury cars. Therefore, in consideration to expand the Indian operations company will go for the most suitable direction, he added further.

The compact premium cars are in great demand rather than the luxury cars, this significant shift in the buyer’s preferences forcing the automakers to move in this direction. The Director Sales & Marketing of Mercedes Benz India, Debashish Mitra admitted that Mercedes Benz is aiming to achieve a three-fold increase in sales by 2015 and ten-fold increase by the 2020. The other auto brands have flourished their market in the segment where the Mercedes is absent. Now, company will approach these segments with its new product line-up by 2014.
