Mitsubishi to bid adieu to Pajero SFX by September-October

Rumours are doing the rounds that Mitsubishi could phase out the Mitsubishi Pajero SFX in the month of September and October. The SUV continued to sell in the domestic market however it has been removed from the other global markets long ago. Mitsubishi Pajero is a celebrated car from the Japanese car maker which enjoys high popularity among the SUV lovers. This is one of the reasons that the SUV enjoyed a long over stay in the Indian car market in spite of presence of other offerings present in the luxury SUV segment. The company of late launched a new version of the Pajero christened, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, therefore this could be one reason why the company is thinking to phase out the aged Pajero SFX.

As of now, 2012 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is being sold in India as a completely built unit, however the company plans to bring it through completely knocked down units route and assemble the SUV locally. Pajero Sport is conceived on the Triton pick up platform and will be assembled in India effective September and October of this year. Only after then will Mitsubishi phase put the SFX variant form the Indian car market. This is also being done in wake of promoting Mitsubishi Pajero Sport which has been a victim of slow sales as its older sibling has been stealing all the limelight. Also with Pajero being assembled in India will also witness reduction in cost and could be priced close to Pajero SFX.

Mitsubishi Pajero SFX is at the last stage of its product cycle, just a few months back the SUV was made BS4 compliant. Due to the untoward floods in Thailand, launch of new Pajero Sport was delayed in India. Mitsubishi Pajero SFX is powered with a turbo diesel engine that engenders 108 Bhp of power and a maximum torque of 260 Nm. The SUV is still doing well in the domestic market and giving a tough competition to its counterparts.

While the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is equipped with a sturdy 2.5 litre common rail turbo diesel motor that generates 176 Bhp of power  and a peak torque of 400 Nm. The diesel mill is harmonized to a manual transmission supplying power to all four wheels via a shift-on-the-fly 4WD system. The new gen Pajero Sport can comfortably accommodate seven people inside the cabin. Priced at Rs 23.65 lakh, the SUB rivals the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
