New Hyundai i20 returns 37 kmpl mileage

In India, Chevrolet Beat has taken over Tata Indica eV2 in terms of mileage recently and has become the car with the highest mileage in India. However, there is another car that returns a mileage of 37 kmpl. Guess which one is it? It is the new Hyundai i20 diesel. Powered by a 1.0 L CRDI technology based three cylinder engine, the new i20 in UK returns this mileage which is much above than what the Chevrolet Beat Diesel returns. Notably, the Hyundai i20 has recently received a makeover and had now become iGen i20 promising an ‘uber life’ experience to its customers.

It was quite a surprise for Indian car buyers when Chevrolet Beat Diesel came up with ARAI certified 25.44 kmpl mileage which was just above the 25 kmpl mileage returned by Tata Indica eV2. It was none less than a surprise for the Indian car buyer to have such whooping high mileage from a small car and it was this reason that triggered sales of the Beat Diesel in India. Soon, the Beat small car became the best selling of the American car maker and bagged many accolades on the sales chart.

Now that Hyundai has shown a 37 kmpl mileage on the new 2012 Hyundai i20 diesel, it is far above the average of any car in India. The UK specific model uses a 1.1 L common rail diesel engine which has three pots. It outputs 74 bhp and has a maximum torque capacity of 152 Nm. Hope this model could make it to India as well. But UK roads and Indian roads are different and so the UK based i20 will not be able to deliver more than 30 kmpl in Indian hot and humid conditions. Notably, the new i20 has become the third car to have the 1.1 L engine on after Hyundai i10 and Kia Picanto. In addition to the highly frugal engine, the new i20 also has a lot of other features that make it to return high mileage.
