New small car from Mahindra with 1.0 liter motor
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), the leading Indian utility car maker is now looking forward to launch a small car in domestic auto-market that will be boosted by a 1.0 liter inline and would be tagged in the price tag range of Rs. 2.5 lakh to Rs. 3.5 lakh. Earlier, M&M planned to establish the manufacturing plant in Haryana, but at last they settled down the facility in Tamil Nadu. It is expected that the company would invest Rs. 800 crores in the first phase for the production commencement.
Pawan Goenka, President, M&M Automotive Division earlier stated that the company is going to launch two hatchbacks i.e. a smaller version Mahindra Verito sedan and another small car. He also stated that both of these cars would be built on the in-house platforms.

The company has also opted 4 vendors for this small car project, codenamed ‘BRL’ and it has also shared the prototype of this car with these vendors. The company has although not yet named the vendors, but it is has been indicated that they are experts in building of engines, lamps and steering systems. Speculations are that the company would commence the production of this small car during 2013 – 14.

Mahindra team is quite confident about this success move and they expect the company to tackle the small car segment too, after getting stabilized in the utility segment. M&M understands it very well that there is ample of scope in the hatchback segment, therefore, they too are geared up to stand head to head with other leading small car brands like Hyundai and Maruti Suzuki. Furthermore, apart from this small car project, the company has got other products lined up for the launch on the domestic shores, which includes Mahindra Xylo Mini and the EV Reva NXG and the EV Reva NXR.
