It is reported that the domestic carmaker Mahindra & Mahindra has applied with the intellectual property authorities of India to register the proposed names for the next generation of Scorpio SUV slated for launch during the middle of the next year. It is speculated with among these four names one name will be given either to the next generation of Scorpio or will be named to the Special Edition launched in the farewell of the existing Scorpio.

The Scorpio has been one of the bestselling SUVs in the country despite the arrival of various new SUVs and compact SUVs in the market. The introduction of Sting can be either the name of an upgraded trim introduced in the Scorpio family or an extension in its title like Toyota introduced ‘Crysta” in its bestselling MPV Innova, a couple of years back. It is also speculated that following the custom of honouring the outgoing vehicle in a respective way the company might launch a Special Edition as Scorpio Sting to give a respective farewell to the bestselling vehicle, as it did last year while phasing out the Mahindra Thar 700. Well, all these are speculations, and the secret is hidden in future which will be disclosed either in the coming months or during the beginning of the next year.

As far as the integration of new features is concerned it is believed that in its next-generation the Scorpio will be equipped with a bunch of high-technological features like the large touchscreen infotainment system, vehicle telematics, and probably a digital instrument cluster. Under the hood, it will be powered with a new 2.0-litre turbo mStallion petrol engine that also powers in the Thar launched at the beginning of the year. The engine is capable of generating the power of 150 bhp and torque between 300-320Nm. The diesel variant will receive the power from 2.2-litre mHawk engine developing the power of 130 bhp and the peak torque of 320Nm. Both the engines are likely to be mated with a six-speed manual transmission system as a standard feature, along with an option of torque convertor transmission system in both the variant.
