Renault considers developing global small car based on Maruti Alto

Renault Pulse hatchback car by France based automaker in the country, Renault India, will no more be its entry level vehicle as it will be replaced by a global small car based on Maruti Alto in near future. These reports have come up as Renault is now gearing up to commence its subsequent phase of development from 2015 in one of the largest economies of Asian continent. For this inaugural project, India will play a central role after which it will be followed by other promising auto sectors in the form of Brazil, Africa, Russia and Indonesia. The car is expected to be priced nearby INR 3 Lakh.

The expected small car will fall in the size and price segment of nation’s bestseller Maruti Alto. According to the reports, Renault has handed over this esteemed project to Gerard Detourbet, who has an expertise in small cars, and is also regarded as ‘father of entry cars programs’. The initiative is pretty clear and future oriented as these days people around the world prefer to have small cars packed with adequate fuel economy. In this visionary assignment Renault’s local design centre and skilled technological engineering will be put to test.

The mini car will be built on an ‘all-new Renault platform’, as there will be no sharing this time from its global ally Nissan. The platform will especially be created for the new vehicle. This new base will benefit Renault to develop a vehicle that will be volume driver for the company in India. The French automaker till now hasn’t pulled-off desired success with its earlier launches in the form of Renault Fluence sedan and Renault Koleos SUV. Currently, Renault has many hopes with its Nissan Micra based hatchback car Renault Pulse that was launched at 2012 Auto Expo along with the showcasing of its compact SUV Renault Duster at the event.
