Skoda to cut price of Fabia hatch, aims to sell over 8k units monthly

Call it distress or the preparation for the real show of might in the near future, Skoda has planned huge discount in price on the Fabia hatchback. This price reduction will be achieved with the help of high level of localization and streamlining the production. Anticipating huge response from the Indian car buyer, the car maker has prepared itself to sell around 8000 Fabia’s monthly once the price reduction is declared. Almost all the car makers have doled out attractive offers on their cars sensing the low performance in August when almost car sales was down by 11 percent and exports were down by over 27 percent. This is the worst ever situation in some years and Skoda believes that a price reduction will put Fabia sales back into business.

Being a small car, Fabia has the potential to do some good numbers. It is also believed that a price cut on the Skoda Rapid could also be there in some time. A near Diwali re launch of the low priced Rapid is on the cards, said one source. Though there will only be a marginal price cut on Rapid as the car is already under heavy localization. The Fabia on the other hand has a lot of sourced parts till date and putting the localization to over 90 percent will attract a considerable price reduction on the car and this is what the car maker wishes.

Meanwhile, the car maker is also in the process of bringing in the Skoda Citigo hatchback when VW seems to be planning the Up! car for India. Notably, both the Citigo and Up! were deferred for Indian sensing the market conditions but now the parent VW as well as the subsidiary Skoda have realized that it will be the small cars that will enable them to put some exciting numbers on the sales front.
