Zotye Auto launched the cheapest car in China, christened, ‘Zotye Z100’ which goes on sale effective today. The Z100 is an unlicensed clone of Maruti A Star which is sold as Suzuki Alto in the other auto souks. The car has been priced competitively at 28.8.25.8k Yuan which is close to Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.2 lakh in Indian currency.

The price of this clone of Maruti A Star (Suzuki Alto) is tagged at half the price as that of Chang’an Suzuki Alto which is sold in China. Does Zotye remind you of something, if it does then you are not mistaken, the company sources CKD kits to Premier for its SUV Rio, which actually is an altered Daihatsu Terios, Zotye attained the licence to manufacture.

The Fiat ‘Multipla’ has been augmented to Zotye ‘Multiplan. The new range of cars which the company eyes to resell are the earlier gen Fiat cars like, Fiat Palio, Fiat Doblo, Fiat Strada and Fiat Siena. One more car which the company mulls to resell is Hyundai’s Veracruz. However, most the cars mentioned here are made with original tooling and production rights. Let’s just hope that we do not get to see more cheap clones of the extant and existing cars and that too without getting proper production rights.
