Volkswagen to reposition Skoda cars in India, price rejig soon

German car maker group Volkswagen will soon to shuffling the positioning of its three brands – Skoda, Audi and Volkswagen. These three car brands will be repositioned in India as per the global levels and thus it is said that Skoda will have to move down. Whereas Audi will continue to enjoy the status of being the luxury car maker while Volkswagen will be thinking again on its plans to launch the VW Up in India. Recent reports suggest that the car maker is not all bullish about India and has said in a statement that it will be assessing prior to the launch of new Volkswagen cars in India.

Notably, where Skoda is the entry level car brand in India and its car Skoda Fabia is the entry level car in the country and its price starts at Rs 4.46 lakh. Skoda also offers Skoda Rapid, Skoda Laura sedans and Skoda Yeti SUV. Meanwhile, the Volkswagen car range starts with the Volkswagen Polo that starts at Rs 4.67 lakh and its other cars include Volkswagen Vento, Volkswagen Jetta, Volkswagen Passat and VW Phaeton besides the Volkswagen Touareg SUV and Volkswagen Beetle car. Audi on the other hand is the luxury car brand and its range starts at Rs 27.69 lakh for the Audi A4 sedan. Audi range includes sedans A6, A7, A8 and other Audi cars. The recent addition of Audi Q3 SUV that starts at Rs 26 lakh is a big hit in the country.

Meanwhile, VW cars are a little above Skoda cars in the respective segments, there will be a correction based on the international level where Skoda is place below the parent VW. In the meantime, reports have also suggested that the car group is not in mood of expansion but will be launching more models of the existing cars. The reason behind this is the not so bullish approach and thus by 2015, India will not be in the target list of VW.
