Volvo XC60 gets Top Safety Pick+ award by IIHS

Volvo, a Swedish luxury carmaker, has already carved out a unique identity in the automobile domain. There are no qualms that Volvo has transformed itself into a reliable automobile brand. According to the latest reports, the midsize luxury SUV Volvo XC60 has grabbed a title of Top Safety Pick+ vehicle in overlap frontal crash test, conducted by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). This is certainly a commendable achievement for Volvo. This test was basically meant to observe the repercussions, after the front corner of a vehicle smashes with either a vehicle or any object like pole or tree. Volvo XC60 is the only one of its own kind of midsize luxury SUV to exhibit appreciable results during the current year, 2013.

Managing Director of Volvo Car India, Tomas Ernberg, enthusiastically revealed that they were not just confident about the performance of the luxury SUV XC60 model, but they also lend the required assistance for organizing the test by volunteering. He further added that, the company doesn’t simply believe in scoring well on one or two aspects through the design, but the emphasis has always been on offering everyday’s safety to its users. Every single vehicle of the company is well-designed with dynamic safety equipment, which not only prove their competency in the context of avoiding a crash, but they also prove competent for protecting the user during the mishap.

Interestingly, Volvo was the sole European luxury brand that was the recipient of five awarded models in the report of IIHS, during the year 2011. The XC60 won 5 stars in all solo crash tests, including 5 stars for the traveler in the frontal collision, 5 star for the person on driving seat and 5 stars in both side tests. The criteria, for awarding rating includes performance in a temperate overlap frontal collision, small overlap frontal collision, rollover and side impact along with the capability of seat/head restraints for safeguarding against neck injuries in rear impacts. The 2013 Volvo XC60 and Volvo S60 both grabbed the top rating of "good" in the test results.
