Chevrolet Sail caught on camera again during road test in India

General Motors India, a subsidiary of the US based leading car maker, is aggressively working on rolling-out of its all new Chevrolet Sail sedan in the Indian market very soon. The Sail model has been caught under testing on Indian roads for a number of times in last few months, indicating that the company is in the final stage of launch of this car. Among the series of scoops of the road test of this car, the latest one is a spy video. The car is expected to mark its India debut by mid of this year.

Jointly developed by GM India and China’s SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), the Chevrolet Sail model is already available in a number of markets including China. In India, the Sail sedan and hatchback versions will be replacing the Aveo duo currently there in the GM India portfolio. The Sail model was showcased at the Delhi International Auto Expo 2012, where it had grabbed major attentions of car enthusiasts and visitors alike.

Internationally, the car is available in two petrol options including a 1.2L and 1.4 L engine. Both of which will be launched in India including 1.2L powered in hatchback version and 1.4L in sedan version.

Moreover, the company is expected to launch both of these models in diesel options also, considering high demand for diesel run cars in the mass segment in India. It is most likely, that GM India would source 1.3L multijet engine from Fiat for Chevrolet Sail diesel, the same engine which is currently available in Maruti’s Ritz, Swift and Dzire models.

However, achieving success in the Indian market will not be that easy for Sail series of models as there has been a stiff competition in both entry level sedan and compact hatchback segments. The Chevrolet Sail hatchback will be competing with the likes of Maruti Swift, Ritz, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Brio and Jazz etc. On the other hand, the sedan version will be competing with the likes of Toyota Etios, Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Accent, Tata Indigo CS etc.
