Honda Brio diesel version not in near future
It has been quite some time since the speculations of the launch of new Honda Brio Diesel have been doing rounds in the Indian auto market. However, if the recent media reports are to be believed, the company has no plans of launching current model of Brio in diesel version. According to reports, the new diesel engine will be debuting in India with new range of Honda cars.
While earlier it was expected that the company will roll-out the current model of Brio in the diesel version as well, now some latest media reports are claiming that the current Brio won’t be offered in diesel version. Instead, the new compact diesel engine of Honda will be launched with new sedan based on Brio platform. Moreover, a new minivan which will also be based on Brio will also be among the first diesel run models in Honda’s India portfolio.

It is to be mentioned here that the Japanese auto giant has never offered a diesel run car in the Indian market. However, with the price gap between the petrol and diesel fuel has been constantly widening-up, the company has been forced to offer their car in diesel variant as well. With the speculations of Honda Brio diesel launch in the near future, many new customers have postponed their decision of buying Brio petrol version, as the petrol is much costlier as compared to diesel in the country.

The Brio based sedan will be rolled-out in sub 4 meter segment where it will be competing with the likes of Toyota Etios and much successful Maruti Swift Dzire. The new Honda sedan is expected to be developed with the same boot on hatch strategy, through which Maruti has built Dzire sedan, Skoda has launched Rapid, and Toyota has developed Etios sedan.
Though the company is still quite on the timeline of launch of new Honda Brio sedan, it is expected to be launched in the country by year 2014, where it will be rivaling with the likes of Dzire and Etios.
