Maruti 800cc diesel in the making
The long awaited Maruti small car that will be replacing Maruti 800 and will give a feasible offering than Maruti Alto is rumored to have 800 cc diesel engine option with 40 bhp and exceptional mileage of 30 kmpl. This way it will be in fact Maruti’s answer to Tata Nano that is 38 bhp and 25 kmpl car. Besides, being high on looks contrary to the overtly small dimensions, the Maruti Alto 800 cc as the new car is called these days will be a typical looking small car but will have a diesel heart that is still unknown in cars of these proportions. The Maruti Alto 800 cc price and specifications are all a guess work till today in the absence of any confirmation by the car maker.

It is believed that the diesel engine is in the development stage and Suzuki is highly banking on it to revolutionize the small car segment throughout the world. India and China will be the chief markets besides other countries. As per the information, the diesel engine will have only two pots and these two will be churning out 40 bhp power. Being smaller in capacity and since the number of cylinders is only two, the small car will be able to return a mileage of around 28 kmpl to 30 kmpl. As soon as the engine is ready for production it will be heading to India, where it will be beginning a new chapter starting from where Maruti 800 has ended.

Till today small cars are the best selling cars in India and these constitute over 45 percent of the total car sales. Maruti Alto has been the volume leader in this segment but has been overtaken by Maruti Swift for some time after petrol prices reached the sky. Now only a small car that too in diesel could revive Maruti back in India and Maruti is generously doing every bit to retain its lead and the Maruti Alto 800cc petrol car could be launched this year. Meanwhile, where Maruti leads the small car segment, Renault is all set to take the wheel of the SUV segment with the Renault Duster launch on July 4. It is believed that Duster launch in India will be setting up a new SUV segment that will have offerings cheaper than Mahindra Scorpio or Tata Safari.

I am glad to hear that maruti 800 would be available on diesel soon. As competition in the market, I hope the price will be common man's budget.

Maruti 800 can truly be said as the car of middle class families and is serving Indians for the last three decades.

If the vibration of two cylinder is identical to Nano, it wud be like scooter engine like in it.
