Maruti Suzuki Baleno scores 3 stars in Euro NCAP Test
The India made first hatchback Baleno by Indo-Japanese car maker Maruti Suzuki has succeeded in receiving three star ratings in recently concluded Euro NCAP Crash test. The unit of Baleno tested was Indian specified version, interestingly the global version of Baleno succeeded in receiving four-star ratings in same test. According to standards determined by committee of NCAP test scoring three stars ratings refers to "average to good occupant protection but lacking crash avoidance technology".

According to reports revealed by Euro NCAP the cabin of Baleno did not got affected during the front crash test. The test recordings revealed that cabin offered complete protection to knees and femurs to everyone seated in car. The report also revealed that "In the full-width rigid barrier impact, protection of the driver was rated as good except for the chest, protection of which was adequate," it added.
The test conducted for assessing side strength of vehicle also delivered positive results and succeeded in offering complete side protection to passengers, but unfortunately the test conducted for head protection failed due to improper deployment of side curtain airbag. The reports indicate “"In the more severe side pole impact, dummy readings of lateral rib compression indicated weak chest protection and the head protection was downgraded to adequate as a result of the incorrect airbag deployment,". While testing rear crash test of car it was noticed that front seats and head restraints remained stable during the crash. The committee however did not included optional “Radar Brake Support” during the test. The global version however succeeded in impressing the committee and scored four star rating under various tests that were conducted by committee.
