Maruti Suzuki India frustrated by its personnel; indicates a shift to Gujarat

The clash ongoing between Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) and its employees now needs no introduction as it has been in news for nearly two months and sees no end.

The largest passenger car producer on Tuesday accepted that the company needs to discover various ways to handle its fleet of younger labors, as every argument among the two parties ends up in the form of stalemate.

This is the third strike in the firm this year; the first one was of 13 days in June at Haryana based Manesar unit of the company. After which another started on 29th August and ended on 1st October; a 33 days deadlock, and within 5-6 days the third strike followed on 07th October and is still on.

There are reports that MSI is sighting a long term solution for these issues; a shift from Haryana to some other state in India. And Gujarat seems to be a strong nominee as far as the transfer is concerned.

The workers are very young at MSI averaging 24-25 years. The total workforce is of around 9100 employees out of which the problem lies with the 1500 younger new people. Due to inexperience they lack adaptability and respect for guidelines of the company, as said by Mr. S Y Siddiqui; the Managing Executive Officer for administration at MSI.

If the sources are to be believed, right now MSI is totally exhausted with the recurring episodes of standoff by its workforce at Manesar plant and the management suggests a relocation outside the state which may not be welcomed by the Haryana government.

During the first unrest in the month of September Mr. Osamu Suzuki, the chairman for Suzuki had met Chief Minister of Gujarat in relation to the establishment of manufacturing unit there. The production plant will be spread in about 1000 acres of land and has a capacity to roll-out 2 million vehicles.

The election of Gujarat state for the move had two major reasons; firstly auto giants like Tata Motors, Ford Motors and Peugeot have already started manufacturing, and secondly no hustle was reported till that with the workforce there.

Maruti chairman, Mr. RC Bhargawa, stated that the industrial region in Haryana may suffer a lot in coming years if appropriate and strong steps are not taken into consideration.
