Maruti Suzuki Stops Selling S-Cross In India
The country’s leading car-making company, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has stopped selling the S-Cross crossover in the Indian car market. This move from the Indo-Japanese carmakers has come during the festive season when major carmakers are launching new or upgraded versions of their existing line-up. The S-Cross was launched in 2015 with two engine options of a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine generating the power of 89 bhp and a 1.6-litre diesel engine churning power of 117 bhp. In 2017, the company launched its facelift version with cosmetic and mechanical updates and replaced the 1.6-litre diesel engine with a 1.3-litre engine mated with the mild-hybrid SHVS technology.
In 2020, when the new BS VI emission norms were introduced in the country, the company introduced the new 1.5-litre K-series petrol engine in the line-up of S-cross and discontinued the existing diesel engine. The new engine was also offered with mild-hybrid technology. During the seven years of its journey in the Indian car market, the company sold 1.60 lakh units of the S-Cross in the country.
Before the discontinuation of the S-Cross from the Indian car market, Maruti Suzuki India Limited had launched the compact SUV Grand Vitara with a starting price of Rs 10.45 lakh for the base trim. The top-end trim is sold at Rs 19.49 lakh. According to sources of the company, it has received more than 60,000 bookings so far for the Grand Vitara. It is the company’s first full hybrid vehicle outsourced from the Japanese carmaker Toyota Motors. It is available with a 92 bhp, 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine. It is mated by an electric engine and churns the power of 79 bhp and a torque of 141 Nm. it is mated with an e-CVT gearbox engine and offers an average of 27.97 kmpl.
