The new small cars, which have got fame as ‘Kei’ cars in the Japanese market, come powered by a 660 cc petrol engine. The line-up of Kei cars, which will be showcased by the Maruti Suzuki at the forth coming International Auto Expo in the National Capital in the month of January 2012, will include - MR Wagon and Palette. Both of these models are already available for sale in the Japanese market in the portfolio of Suzuki.
In a recent statement, Maruti Suzuki India’s managing executive officer (marketing & sales), Mayank Pareek, made it clear that while these small cars will be powered by a 660CC petrol engine, these will not be low priced cars as Tata Nano. He added that the company is planning to bring these small cars at the Delhi International Auto Expo so that the feedback of customers can be studied. He however maintained that the company has no plans to bring these cars in the Indian market as of now.
One more model that will be much awaited among the car enthusiasts at the Delhi auto expo is the concept version of its upcoming sports utility vehicle, which will be launched in the Indian market next year. The SUV has been designed and developed by Maruti’s Research & Development center in India in conjunction with engineers at Suzuki Motors in Japan.
