Mercedes Benz A Class to target under Rs 20 lakh segment
It is only Mercedes that knows how irksome is when one loses the top slot in the Indian luxury car market. The German car maker has lost its position first to BMW and then the second to Audi that is spearheading for the numero uno position with offerings such as the Audi A6 and Audi Q3. Meanwhile, Mercedes Benz has decided to take it as a challenge and not to accept the defeat. Thus in order to strengthen its presence in the market, the car maker will be launching the Mercedes Benz A Class. The under Rs 20 lakh car will not only help the car maker offer a Mercedes car at a much attractive price but it will also ascertain that it gets its title of the largest selling luxury car maker back.

The company aims to target the volume car segment by 2016 and will be offering more cars under Rs 25 lakh. As per the information, the company will be bringing 40 percent of its product range in the under Rs 25 lakh price segment. This will help Mercedes beat its rivals badly. As part of the measures to regain its position, the car maker will be investing Rs 250 crore in India in the next two years. This is though not a big amount but it will help the car maker strengthen its presence in the country. Notably, in the bygone days a luxury car meant a Mercedes Benz car but with the addition of newer entrants in the segment, Mercedes’ hold over the market has lessened over a period of time.

As per the statement made by Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and CEO Peter Honegg, the car maker will be launching the A Class in the under 20 Lakh price segment and this car will also be arriving in the SUV avatar. Thus India will have a too populated Rs 20 lakh to Rs 25 lakh SUV segment ahead.
