Mercedes confirms A45 AMG for Europe, A Class could hit Indian market by 2013
Demand for performance hatchbacks might be mild in India as of now, but these are definitely the most in thing in the European car market. The German luxury car maker, Mercedes Benz has confirmed the long awaited performance hatchback, Mercedes Benz A45 AMG. Rumours earlier suggested that the hatch will be christened Mercedes Benz A25 AMG, but rubbishing the rumours Mercedes has confirmed the launch for the European market.

The mighty hatch is expected to be launched in Europe in the beginning of 2014 and will gun straight against the likes of Audi RS3 and BMW M135i. Expect this hatchback in three trim levels namely, Mercedes Benz A45 AMG, Mercedes Benz CLA (the four door coupe) and the Mercedes Benz CLA shooting brake which are likely to be launched in America. Under the hood will reside a new 2.0 litre, four pot turbocharged engine which is alternatively mounted. The engine is capable of generating a staggering power of 330 HP and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. Drive will be delivered to the entire four wheels and the motor will be harmonized to a seven speed dual clutch gearbox. A multi-plate clutch all wheel drive system will be affixed in the Mercedes Benz A45 AMG along with a rear biased torque distribution. This will enable the hatchback to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in mere 5 seconds along with attaining a top speed of 250 km/h.

As far as the Indian car market is concerned the German luxury car maker has different plans. The industry has been humming about the new Mercedes Benz A-Class. Mercedes is planning to render the A Class in 2013, also the company is mulling over to launch Mercedes Benz A Class AMG in India which will help in lifting the brand’s image in India which has been outshone by its German counterparts BMW and Audi. Mercedes will assemble A Class locally in India for which the company is investing Rs 350 crore to set up a new assembling plant exquisitely for the Mercedes Benz A Class and Mercedes Benz B Class vehicles. Mercedes Benz A Class would be priced around Rs 20 lakhs making it the lowest priced car from the Mercedes’ clan, however the AMG variant could be tagged around Rs 45 lakhs.
