Mitsubishi Pajero Sport price reduced by Rs 1.87 lakh
2012 Mitsubishi Pajero, which is sold in the Indian market through joint venture of Hindustan Motors and Japanese auto giant Mitsubishi, is now offered at a discounted price. The Pajero model is now imported to the Indian market through CKD (completely knocked down) unit route, which makes it considerably lesser price in comparison. While the earlier Pajero was available with a price tag of Rs 24.43 lakh, the new CKD imported Pajero is offered with a huge price cut of Rs 1.87 lakh at Rs 22.56 lakh.

The price tag of the Pajero SUV has been slashed amidst an upward shooting competition in the luxury SUV segment with the entry of new Mahindra Ssangyong Rexton. The entry of new Rexton is seems to has forced the rivals to re think over their pricing strategy, as Mahindra has priced their new SUV quite competitively.
With adopting the CKD route in comparison to earlier CBU route, Hindustan Motors has enabled their Pajero SUV to qualify for the lesser excise duty segment of only 30 percent. Moreover, the company is further planning to reduce its manufacturing cost by increasing the level of localization content to 30 percent from current level of 14 percent.

On other major competitor of the car, Toyota Fortuner, which has been through runaway success so far in India, also seems to have started feeling the heat with the entry of new Mahindra Rexton. The Fortuner was recently launched in a new TRD Sportivo special edition to further strengthen its position.
