New Hyundai Sonata tumbling down constantly!
Hyundai India had launched brand new Hyundai Sonata in the Indian car market, but sadly the car failed to perform well here. The major reason behind this failure is the presence of the petrol engine option only. In spite of the huge shift of the Indian consumers from petrol to diesel cars, Hyundai India didn’t learnt a lesson and directly fell into the trap. Launching a premium car with a petrol engine option is sheer stupidity in today’s time. However, launching only the petrol variant of Sonata in the Indian car market is not Hyundai’s fault as it is not offering diesel variant of the sedan anywhere in the world.

New Hyundai Sonata sales record since its launch in March 2012
32 units in July 2012
39 units in June 2012
43 units in May 2012
66 units in April 2012
92 units in March 2012
According to the grapevine, Hyundai is busy working on a four cylinder diesel engine, which could be fitted into future Hyundai cars. Coming back to 2012 Hyundai Sonata, the company is working hard on amplifying the sales of the car. In order to swell-up the Sonata sales in Malaysia, the firm has rolled out a sporty body kit for the sedan. The kit is known as ‘Sonata Sport’, which comprise of side skirts, front lip, Quad exhaust tips (two on each side) and a rear bumper extension.

Similar to India, even in Malaysia, Hyundai Sonata is offered in 2.0L and 2.4L petrol engine options. The new Hyundai Sonata would have been in competition with Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Superb, if it had a diesel engine option under the hood. Like for Verna, its fluidic structure helped to intensify the sales, same could be the case with New Hyundai Sonata. But sadly, the sky rocketing petrol prices are becoming heavier on pockets day by day. Therefore, it would be best for Hyundai to roll out its premium Sonata Sedan in diesel variant and boost up its sales like never before.

I think that Hyundai must give some lights to the thought of offering diesel variant of Sonata.
