Nissan expects to drive volume sales with upcoming Sunny sedan in India

With the launch of its sunny sedan scheduled to take place in upcoming festive season in October, the Indian unit of leading Japanese car maker Nissan is aiming to register volume sales in the country in coming months. The car maker that sold 13,030 units of its cars in the Indian auto market in FY 2010, is now aiming to register a three-fold increase in its sales during the next fiscal with expecting sales figures to touch 40,000 unit mark.

The company will open bookings for the Sunny sedan in September 2011 and expecting the car to make a major contribution in the company’s sales in the last quarter of this calendar year. The Nissan Sunny will be tagged with a new name in the country and will possibly be launched in the price segment of Rs 6.5 to 8.5 lakh, where it will compete with the cars like Maruti SX4Honda CityToyota Etios and Volkswagen Vento.

Besides this, the company is targeting to components of worth US$100 million from India to cater the needs of its manufacturing facilities in the global market. Moreover, the company will be enhancing the manufacturing facility of its Chennai plant to 4,00,000 units per annum from the current capacity of 2 lakh units.

In a bid to strengthen its distribution network in the Indian auto market, the company will be enhancing its dealership network to 100 dealers by year 2012, as compared to current network of mere 40 dealers.
