Nissan plans production of Datsun cars here to emerge as major car exporter from India

Auto experts feel that India can emerge as an exquisite hub for car companies from world over, thanks to the availability of cheap labour. Every firm that wants to take advantage of high volume production can use this tremendous potential of India for expanding their business. After Maruti Suzuki Inc. and Hyundai, it is the turn of Japanese car company, Nissan to export cars manufactured in India. Nissan has exported 1,00,909 cars from India this year and has beaten its own record by almost 50%. Hyundai India has also been left behind which topped the chart last fiscal, by exporting 2.37 lakh cars.

The MD of NMIPL, Mr. Takayuki Ishida stated in a press conference that they had ambitious plans for India since exports from India had been hugely successful so far. He also added that they currently export 85% of the production, which they expect to increase to meet the overseas demand. Nissan has plans to expand their product portfolio and India would be their only manufacturing center in Asia. Presently, they are shipping Nissan Sunny sedan and Nissan Micra hatchback in over 100 countries from Chennai, India.

Nissan Motors India Private Ltd. has also planned to manufacture and export their small car under Datsun brand from Indian shores only. They may use their Oragadam plant based in Chennai for the manufacturing purpose or even set up a new one. Their ambitious project may practically realize by the mid-2014 and then they will target all the emerging economies viz. Brazil, India and Russia, with this product and in high volumes.

Nissan is a subsidiary of Nissan Motor India. It manufactures its products at Oragadam plant in Chennai that is jointly owned by two auto majors, Nissan and Renault. Nissan started exporting cars from there, since 2010.
