Nissan Sunny did it again, April sales touches new heights

Nissan India registered a whopping year-on-year growth of 187% by selling 3,467 units in the month of April 2012. Nissan until now has been a dud seller; it is only after the launch of Nissan Sunny sedan that the company has started posting good sales in India. Out of the total 3,467 units sold in April, 2,012 units comprised of Sunny sedan. The company launched Nissan Sunny sedan in the month of September last year and so far the auto cos has managed to sell around 16,173 units of Sunny in India. On the other hand, Nissan Micra hatchback could manage to fetch 1,435 units of sales in April, accounting for a 19% rise as compared to the same period last year. Apart from this, other models from Nissan like, Nissan X-Trail SUV, Nissan Teana premium sedan and Nissan 370Z sports car constituted the rest of the sales.

Commenting on the company’s sales in the month of April, the Managing Director of Nissan India, Mr Ishida Takayuki said that Nissan’s sales in the month of April have been outstanding and it also implies that customers are now turning toward the Japanese auto maker. Nissan Sunny sedan has garnered an unprecedented response from the Indian customers and the company expects to get the same unparalleled response in the domestic market.

One of the senior officials from the company few days ago mentioned that the company eyes to become the largest exporter from India. Also Nissan recently asserted the launch of its low cost brand Datsun in India. Under Datsun, the company plans to bring low cost cars priced between Rs 2 lakh to Rs 4 lakh. In India Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are amongst the top two car exporters. Nissan too is catching up with their pace and has emerged the fastest growing exporter in India by exporting 1,00,909 units last fiscal in Europe and Latin America.
