Nissan Sunny drives past Vento sales, now 3rd largest selling sedan in India
It is Nissan Sunny sedan that has brought accolades for the Japanese car maker. Recently, the Nissan sedan has become the third largest selling in India this February leaving behind the German car Volkswagen Vento. Equally important is the fact that Nissan Sunny is now the largest selling car by Nissan. Nissan Micra was earlier the largest selling Nissan car in India. Surpassing Vento sales mean that Sunny has the guts to surpass even Honda City and Hyundai Verna Fluidic sales in India.

Sunny is currently priced between Rs 5.8 lakh to Rs 10.2 lakh and has been in target of car buyers since its launch. Now that the Sunny almost six months old in India, over a period of time, it has gained the confidence and trust of people through much enthusiastic user reviews. In all, over 3,130 units of Sunny sedan were sold in India. Similarly, as per the sales figures around 70 percent of the additional cars sold by Nissan this year compared to the same period last year constitute Nissan Sunny. With this, Sunny now has a market share of 13 percent which is though half of the 26 percent by Honda City. Hyundai Verna Fluidic which is the second largest selling sedan in India holds a market share of 19 percent.

Nissan credits the diesel version to have tripled the sales. Initially there was meek response primarily due to the petrol only model, later, with the Nissan Sunny diesel launch in December sales picked up and continued an upward trend, said sources. Over 65 percent of the Nissan Sunny sold are diesel models. The pricing is another thing that has helped the sedan achieves this pedestal. The Sunny sedan is priced even below the entry level sedan Skoda Rapid. This strategy of giving its customers the class and features of a high end sedan in lesser price seems to have really worked well for the Nissan sedan.
