Renault-Nissan JV focus India, eyes 8 percent market share

In the hatchback, sedan and SUV and soon to add more cars to the sedan and SUV segment, Renault India is planning a big show for India. Starting its independent journey in India with the Renault Fluence sedan, then the premium SUV Renault Koleos and then the Nissan Micra look-alike small car Renault Pulse, the French car maker is all set to make India its primaire destination market. Now, in alliance with Nissan, the duo plans to double the production of cars to 8 lakh units per year in the next three/four years. With this the Renault-Nissan joint venture will be pumping in over 20 new cars in India by 2015-16 bringing tremors on the turf of Maruti India and Korean car maker Hyundai.

Where Renault will rebadge a couple of Nissan cars such as Nissan Sunny and Nissan Evalia into Renault Scala, Renault MPV there are reports that both the car makers will be bringing in some new cars from their international portfolio to India. Both the car makers foresee India as a prime destination and will be targeting every segment including the hatchback, sedan and SUV and will be adding cars. Nissan on the other hand will be bringing the low cost car brand Datsun in India and it will be a revival of the famous brand of cars known for their affordable price. Renault has lined up Renault Duster SUV and Renault Scala sedan this year while Nissan had Nissan Evalia MPV, Nissan Murano SUV and Nissan Qashqai another SUV.

Besides Nissan hopes to bring some Datsun cars in India and will be putting in at the entry level car segment in the country that is the hottest spot. However, the duo in alliance with Bajaj India not been able to give shape to the ultra low cost car project that the country eagerly waited for three years or so.
