Coming back to the Renault Scala, the premium sedan as everyone knows is conceived on Nissan Sunny sedan, however it is placed a notch above Sunny in terms of both price and luxury quotient. Available in both petrol and diesel variants, Scala petrol is housed with a 1.5 litre petrol engine that produces a high power of 99 PS and a maximum torque of 134 Nm. On the other hand the diesel variant is powered with a 1. 5 litre diesel engine that can belt out a peak power of 86 PS along with a high torque of 200 Nm. Both the engines are mated to a five speed manual transmission. Dimensions wise, Scala is close to 4425mm long, 1695mm wide and 1505mm tall, also the wheelbase is 2600mm which is quite impressive. Scala is affixed with a McPherson strut front suspension and a torsion bar rear configuration. Despite being inspired highly from its sibling Sunny sedan, Scala has better looks; it reflects the premium quotient that the sedan proffers. Therefore, it would not be wrong to say that Scala has fair chances of stealing the show from its contemporaries, Hyundai Verna and Skoda Rapid who also fall in the same bracket.

Verna though has a strong position in the Indian car market, thanks to its new fluidic design that has made all the difference. Features wise too Verna comes with a bunch of few good features that make it a class apart. On the other hand Rapid has seen success in the domestic market, a comparatively low priced product from Skoda which is not commonly seen. Skoda Rapid is again a stripped down version of its elder cousin Vento and those who cannot afford Vento go for a cheaper version of it in the form of Rapid. Therefore the competition is definitely tough for Scala, however, the company officials are positive that it would be able to sustain the competition and come out a winner. Rest will be seen in the coming time when the monthly sales figure will be out.
