Small Car from Mitsubishi on cards
Here is one more name in the Small car segment in India! This time it is a very strange but popular car maker that is willing to plunge in the highly profitable car segment. Mitsubishi that has launched Pajero Sport yesterday indicates that the company will launch a global small car in India.
You have seen Mitsubishi quite dormant till now with only some SUV and premium sedan offerings but wait as the Japanese car maker is heading for some real action now. Expressing its wish to enter the two volume markets in India – hatchback and compact SUV, Mitsubishi will be launching Mitsubishi Mirage and Mitsubishi ASX/RVR crossover in India soon. The Mirage hatchback is the global small car of the Japanese car maker while the ASX/RVR is a crossover incarnation of its SUVs. Though it is certain that these Mitsubishi new cars will be launched in India but a decision on the time of the launch is yet to be taken. Most probably it will be around this Diwali, said sources.

The striking disclosure came during the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport launch event yesterday. Experts believe that the entering the mass segment car means that the car maker has really big plans for India and it is in a mood to become a major player in the hatchback segment. Currently, it has a strong presence in the SUV segment majorly with the Pajero Sport and Mitsubishi Montero.

The Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback is a global product of the car maker and it had showcased it in 2011 at the Tokyo Auto Show. The Mitsubishi hatchback heading for India is powered by a 1 L 3 cylinder petrol engine. It also has another engine option which is a 1.2 L but this one is in the making. The Mirage is known for its mileage and energy regeneration techniques in India. The Mirage offers a 20 kmpl mileage and will be equipped with start stop and several new technologies unavailable in any hatchback. A CVT transmission will be there which is excellently well for city driving.

The crossover Mitsubishi RVR is basically a compact avatar of the Mitsubishi Outlander Crossover and will be powered by 1.8 L MIVEC petrol and 1.8 L turbo diesel engine options. The customers going for RVR diesel option will have two power choices viz. 115 bhp and 150 bhp. Once the Mitsubishi crossover is there in India it will be putting up touch time for the upcoming Renault Duster and Ford Ecosport SUVs in India.
