Toyota Etios diesel slated to be launched in September 2011
Toyota Etios, the popular entry level sedan that was launched in the Indian market in December last year, is all set to gain more strength in the country with the launch of its diesel version by next month. The Etios model was initially launched in the petrol version only, and now the company is looking forward to roll-out diesel version in September 2011.
The Etios diesel version will be borrowing engine unit from its premium segment sibling Corolla Altis. It will be powered by a 1.4 Litre D4D diesel Engine that will be tuned differently to make it compatible to the entry level sedan. The engine of Etios Diesel will be joined with a smaller fixed geometry turbocharger, not the variable geometry that has been used in Corolla Altis diesel.

The launch of a new diesel version will enable the Etios series to compete more strongly in the segment. The major competitor of the car would be Maruti Swift Dzire, which is all set to be launched in a new generation version, by the end of this year. The Etios diesel along with petrol version is expected to register volume sales in the Indian market, posing a threat to the segment leaders like Swift Dzire.
The car will be priced in the Sub Rs 7 lakh where it will be fighting for space with the rivals like Maruti Swift Dzire, Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Vento, Honda City, Fiat Linea and Hyundai Verna.
