Toyota Etios goes to Indonesia
Toyota Motors is planning to assemble Toyota Etios in Indonesia. The new assembly plant in Indonesia is under construction and the company is planning to do the local assembly of the car over there. Earlier, the company has mentioned that it will turn Indonesia into a production hub. With the new production plant of Toyota, the firm is likely to export their cars to other ASEAN, African countries and to Australia as well. The new manufacturing plant of Toyota in Indonesia will be funded by 6 group firms, which include in Toyota Motors, Denso Corp, Daihatsu Motors, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Aisin Seiki Co. Ltd and Toyota Auto Body Co. LTD.
After India and Brazil, Indonesia will be the 3rd country that will manufacture Toyota Etios locally. Right now, Toyota cars are exported from India to Africa. After this Indonesian plant, Toyota cars will be exported from here to Africa. However, the plant will import the CKD kits from India, which is the same as Suzuki Indonesia brings in the CKD kits of Maruti Ertiga from India.
Apparently, the
Toyota Etios Liva will not be launched in Indonesia with the same name. The car will drop the ‘Liva’ badge. This one will however be fitted with the same 1.2 litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that is present in the Indian Etios Liva. The engine keeps the capacity to churn out 80PS of maximum power and would be coupled with the same five-speed manual gearbox. In Indonesia, the hatchback will be facing a very tough competition. The strongest opponents of Etios hatchback there comprise of
Nissan March (Nissan Micra in India) and
Honda Brio.
As far as the price tag of Etios hatchback is concerned, the car will be sold at Rp. 150 million, which comes out to be Rs. 8.53 lakh for the top end variant. This price means that Brio will be facing a bit of trouble as its top end variant costs around Rp. 170 million that is approximately Rs. 9.67 lakh.
