Toyota Etios sales remain low after HB20 & Onix launch in Brazil

There is a car and mice game being played in Brazil. It is primarily between Hyundai HB20, Chevrolet Onix and the Toyota Etios hatchback (Etios Liva in India). The Etios Liva has set new standards in India and its export destinations but it has failed miserable in Brazil may be because the opponents have quite well settled in there. Made with genes to target markets such as Brazil and India, the Etios twins have wooed Indians to a large extent and people find the Etios Liva as a prime rival of Maruti Swift and the Etios sedan as an option next to Maruti Swift Dzire.

The Etios failure is quite unobvious and specially when it has been made for Brazil as well. Meanwhile some reports suggest that the new looks of the Hyundai HB20 and Chevrolet Onix hatchbacks have helped them get an edge over the Toyota car in sales. As per the reports, the sales of Etios hatchback has remained a little above 1300 units which is far less than around 8000 units sales of HB20 and Onix in November. The HB20 is a new avatar of Hyundai i20 hatch and it has been specifically designed keeping in mind the needs and standards of Brazil. The Onix on the other hand is also a new offering by Chevrolet and has an upper hand in terms of equipments.  

Thus where HB 20 got ahead due to its price, Onix got a lead due to its being equipment intensive. Meanwhile, the Etios had a backseat due to its comparatively traditional design and low equipment level. It is believed that the Toyota car sales will improve in January as the overall sentiment is low in the market and it is the market conditions that affect the car sales.
