Volkswagen Passat delivers 35.74 kmpl mileage
Gone are the days when India was impressed with the 25 kmpl mileage returned by the Chevrolet Beat Diesel as Volkswagen Passat TDI has driven it past and has delivered a mileage of 35.74 kmpl. Recently, an American couple travelled from Huston in Texas to Sterling in Virginia which is a total of 2617 kilometers long distance on the Passat TDI on a single tank of diesel. John and Helen Taylor, who have over 90 such fuel records to their credit, drove the Passat Diesel 14 hours per day in peak traffic and crossed 9 states to reach Virginia.

The couple that took around 54 kgs of luggage with them and started off from Huston on May 3, 2012, took two days to reach the destination which was a total travel of 1626 miles. With the present tour stretching to 1626 miles, the Passat TDI has broken the record created by Passat 1.6 BlureMotion diesel sedan that travelled to only 1526.6 kilometers on a full tank. As per the information available, the couple chose to drive in the peak hours when the traffic intensity was high and despite of this the Passat TDi was able to create a record.

The Passat TDI used by the couple was a diesel car with 140 hp, 236 lb/ft torque engine and had a six speed manual transmission system on it. The couple drove the car for a maximum of 14 hours daily by taking turns at the wheels. On an average this Passat TDI diesel returns a mileage of 18.2 kmpl but the American couple managed to get as high as 35.74 kmpl mileage on it which is exceptional and even greater than the top mileage cars in India. The India bound Passat that is only offered in diesel has a mileage of 8.5 kmpl in the city and 12.5 kmpl on the highways.
