Volkswagen Up to have a twin pot diesel engine, India debut certain
City car Volkswagen Up is soon to land in the Indian car market. As per the latest updates about his upcoming small car, it will also have diesel version apart from the petrol version. The availability of diesel motor option will help further the prospects of this small car. Efficiency and power delivery will be the two sole USPs of this car besides its small proportions and its affordable price. The Volkswagen Up price in India is expected to be Rs 3.50 lakh and is hoped to be launched in India in mid of this year.

The decision of introducing a diesel trim in the UP product line up seems to be a wise decision by the German car giant. However, the decision will take a final shape only after the Indian government decides on the increase in the tax on diesel cars in India. If the tax burden is increased, it will be dicey whether VW will be bringing in the UP diesel in India or not as then the price of the diesel UP will be much higher than the petrol one and it could be more than the affordable range.

Among the rivals of UP will be Hyundai i20, Maruti Swift and its sibling Skoda Citigo. Where Hyundai has a strong presence in India and has almost is a trusted brand as Maruti, Tata or Mahindra, Skoda Citigo looks and price could also give it a close fight. The VW UP will be getting a diesel motor which will be quite different from the likes of the diesel motor in Volkswagen Polo or Skoda Fabia. The 800 cc engine TDI engine will be producing 47 bhp and will be a twin pot engine. This is the same engine that was showcased in the Concept XL1 at the New Delhi Auto Expo. However, unlike the Concept XL1 the VW Up1 is not expected to deliver 110 kmpl mileage. Though, the engine is expected to deliver exceptional mileage which is imminent due to the only 765 kg of weight of the car.
