ASEAN India 2012 car rally, 28 XUV 500s to be on road

In 2004, the first ever ASEAN car rally was held to improve and enhance the relations between the South East Asian countries. Another aim of this rally was to bring-in the sentiment of togetherness along with focusing the existence of land route connectivity between these countries. The upcoming car rally would see 28 Mahindra XUV 500 SUVs travelling through eight ASEAN countries and India. The cars will travel for about 22 days and would cover-up a whopping 8000kms. This car rally is a CII initiative, where Mahindra and Mahindra is the official vehicle sponsor.

From 11 countries, 124 contestants will voyage jointly on a set route, where the starting point will be Jakarta in Indonesia and will arrive in India on 15th December 2012 at Moreh Border. Moving on, the rally will go towards Imphal and take a halt in Kohima. The trip will come to an end on `17th December 2012 at Guwahati. In the end, there would also be a flag down ceremony followed by the final flag down function on 29th December 2012 in Delhi. The final ceremonial will have the Prime Minister of India with the head of States of all ten ASEAN countries as the guest of honor.
 

Since ‘Look East Policy of 1991’, the alliance between ASEAN and India has been flourishing with a rapid speed. These South East Asian countries comprise of Cambodia, Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. All these countries have witnessed numerous events being held together. This ASEAN car rally is one of the ways bringing together all these countries.
